St. Paul Street Evangelization
The New Evangelization is the core of our charism in the Society of St. Paul. The spirituality we practice is geared to form students into mature, faithful Catholics who answer the call of their missionary vocation that they received in baptism, to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ crucified and risen from the dead to every human situation and preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins in His Name. Following the example of St. Paul, we take it to the streets as an official St. Paul Street Evangelization team.
Evangelists who participate in street evangelization with SSP sign a covenant of fidelity to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church it their entirety. This does not mean they know or understand every facet of doctrine, but submit in trust and obedience to the wisdom of Holy Mother Church, who Christ promised He would never leave and would protect from error.
Students who become fully initiated members of SSP, as laid out in the Rule of SSP, take on a personal apostolate, but firstly they take on the general Society apostolate of evangelization.
There are many ways a student can take part in street evangelization. Some have the confidence to approach people or to be approached to engage them in conversation about the faith. Others participate as prayer warriors, sitting or standing close by praying quietly the whole time to aid the evangelists who are talking. Some also take part by reaching out to people who we have met on the streets and inviting them to events, or by making rosaries that we hand out, or simply by helping with the organization/coordination of the team. There is something for everyone to do that is integral to the street evangelization effort!
